It's Carnaval season. In fact, yesterday was Fat Tuesday and today is Ash Wednesday. Carnaval celebrations are beginning all around the world.
Students, please share how you celebrate this period prior to the beginning of Lent. Or, if you don't celebrate Carnaval, then describe a similar holiday that you celebrate.
Oh, and don't forget to always ask each other questions to learn more about our different cultures!
what does carnaval represent ???
ReplyDeleteTreyvonna, do you remember what we talked about regarding Carnaval in class? It's that time of year before Lent where people celebrate by eating, dancing, parading, dressing up in costumes, etc., before they begin their fasting (giving up certain foods and other things to purify oneself) for Lent.
ReplyDeleteLent lasts for 40 days and ends on Easter day.
thanks for asking!
i think a carnavals are abont fun , family and friends cuples and kids comeing out to play some games go on some rides eat some candy and just have fun but idk what yall think?
ReplyDeleteHow long does the carnival last and who thought of it
ReplyDeletehey i want to know about the american culture, why do americans have a day when all kind of products are sold at a very cheap price, i am talking about the ''black friday'' the day after the thanksgiving day mauricio ramirez A01331184
ReplyDeleteTo me carnivals should be fun and able to move from city to city. I take my little brother to the carnival most of the time.
ReplyDeleteIn Mexico accustomed to go to Ash Wednesday and with it began the period of Lent (40 days) in which we use it for reflection, fasting and to prepare for the Passover (celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ) and it gives the week of April 21.
ReplyDeleteThe ash is given on Ash Wednesday apartir obtained from the burning of the palms and Palm Sunday.
Fernanda Sánchez A01215811
I agree with Fernanda. The catholic religion was learned since aproximately 1521, when Mexico was conquested by Spain.
ReplyDeleteBetween others things the people of here learned about the mission of this. Consisted in some ceremonies that was detailing the Pasion Of Jesus Crist (was simulated) by the mexican people.
The last Wednesday in Mexico I could see to people with one cross in your front, four years ago that I do not go to ash wenesday. But in the next forty days my family and I will eat fish, or whatever for do not eat beef or pig on fridays.
Thanks..
Greetings.

In Mexico the carnaval Is celebrated by catholic people, I´m not catholic... However when I was a child I used to go to a little town and there the people is very catholic so they are customary to celebrate carnaval and in the Lent they represent the pasion of Crist, so when I went there we used to get wet with full water buckets simulating the happiness of the resurrection of Christ & I remember it was always a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteGreetings!!***

I had never been on a carnaval, but i think they are awesome because some people had already tell me that there are beautiful girls that are dancing and there are mecanic games where you can spend your time with your family. Kenneth cruz...<3
ReplyDeleteI really don´t know a lot of the Carnaval celebration, only the basic things like: that is a Catholic tradition, you can only eat fish and healthy things because you have to avoid the beef and pig, and that is just for 40 days... :D
ReplyDeleteWell, other thing is that where I live there is the most spectacular representation of the pasion of Christ and is awesome!
If you could go to this representation I´m 100% sure you will be fascinated... is in Iztapalapa, Mexico, D.F.
Carolina García del Ángel A01331351
Dear Mexican students,
ReplyDeleteWe'd love to see any photos of the images you're describing. Like, Carolina, if you can post a link to an image of this representation of the passion of Christ where you live, we'd love it!

ReplyDeleteI don´t know much about the carnivals that take place in the world. I think it´s very interesting to learn about carnivals. In México is celebrated the representation of the Passion of Christ, in this celebration the Catholics don´t eat red meat only white like fish.

I do not know many things about this tradition, because in my family we have never held it, we believe in God, Christ's death, and we are Christians but for us, a carnival is a remote party to represent God, but I respect everyone's beliefs .

I THINK CARNAVALS ARE ABOUT HAVE FUN WITH YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS.ITS LIKE A BIG PARTY WHERE EVERYBODY COME TOGETHER AND HAVE FUN.....
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteWell, I think that the carnavals are an important part of the cultures because represent the customs and ways of celebration for people in that culture.
ReplyDeleteIn Mexico the carnavals are most popular in the costs and the carnavals are held for several days in which there are parades, food and music, also the people crowned the queen of the carnaval, maybe the most beutiful girl.
In the Mexico city the carnavals are not popular, but there are book fairs, concerts, exhibitions and events that diseminated the culture and diferent people attending.
Hi im Carolina, well the carnaval its something like a party, its an excuse to have fun and skipping school, its funny because the people dress in funny costumes and you eat a looooooooooot :)
ReplyDeleteHi I am Sergio Torres Landa Gonzalez and i have 17. I supose you are in your spring brak, I hope you will enjoy it and spend good time with your friends and family, here in mexico we have not spring break, we have something that we call the "Semana Santa" and it is only one week of school break, it is true that other schools here in Mexico have 2 weeks of break, but in the "Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey Campus Ciudad de Mexico" we do not waste our time sleeping. We like to study very hard and to do a lot of homework. I am fascinated with my english class and y can not live without my teacher Martha. I do not know anything about carnivals and I hope somebody help me telling me how your spring brak last ? why do you go to the carnaval and what is it ?
ReplyDeleteFriendly: Sergio Tl
I would love to go to a carnaval because it look like lots of fun and there are alot of fun things to do
ReplyDeleteI would love to be apart of the carnaval in Mexico it seems like fun. I only go to Mexico during the summer so i never get time to be there while its going on.
ReplyDeleteHi, as my other friends have already said, the carnavals are an important part in each of the cultures; besides they are funny. With them are expressed many different customs and traditions in which we can learn more.
ReplyDeleteAn example in Mexico is that some people are accustomed to celebrate Lent, which lasts 40 days. It begins with Ash Wednesday and ends on Palm Sunday, which is a reflexive moment in which people prepare themselves for Easter.
Greetings!!
Vanessa García :D
Well, we do not called Carnaval season, we called Semana Santa (Saint Week), in my family we are Catholics and we used in these days go to the church, we used to rest in these days, we just focus in our activities, we do not do something spectacular like many people do, they do something called procession or go to church with just the knees. In the TEC we have just one week free, before entering into the high school I have two weeks free, in the first week I used to go to the church and the other week I used to spend those days hanging out with my friends.
ReplyDeleteJuan Carlos San Agustín A01214763
I just asked my mom if there were Carnavals here, and she said yes! I wonder where... but she told me that it is near to my home, the people go to the street dancing and playing instruments! I have no pictures, since I don't know where is it... I wish we had a Carnaval just like the Brazil's one! It looks so nice and funny, have you heard about it?
ReplyDeleteThe most important week in the catholic religion, is what we call here in Mexico city "La semana Santa", I looked for information and I found that this carnaval is celebrated in other parts of the world like Spain and Italy.
ReplyDeleteThe "Semana Santa" is a carnaval where the catholic´s celebrated and conmemorated the death, the passion and resurection of Jesus Christ.
In fact the Semana Santa in Mexico start in only ten days, so the government and churchs in Mexico have ready a program in which they are going to organize diferent activities for the catholic persons.
Some of the important activities are going to be happening in a church located in the town of Mexico it is called "La Catedral".
For me all of these things are interesting, but since I´m not a religous person the Semana Santa is only a vacation´s week :)
I found this page in wich is all the itinerary about the activities in this carnaval in mexico : http://cubaout.wordpress.com/2011/04/10/mexico-se-prepara-para-la-semana-santa-2011/

ReplyDeleteCarnaval season:
ReplyDeleteHere in Mexico we don´t call Carnaval season, it is call Semana santa but let me tell you more about that. In semana santa is suppose that nobody can´t eat red meat, but some people don´t care about this custom and they broke the rule. A lot people go to the church and beg for all the things that they have and for the things that they wish or want.
Students are used to rest in these days, and they always go to the beach to have fun.
For example I am used to be in my town because here we have a big party and it is very awesome because the town is divided in 8 neighborhoods, and every neighborhood will be in downtown playing music and dancing. People in my town are used to wear a typical dress and the people who wear this dress are calling Chinelos. I have gone to this party since I was 5 years old.

Hi everyone!
ReplyDeleteI also think, as Malik said, most of the carnivals are for have fun with the family, friends and kids but it also depends on what kind of carnival you go. Because if you go to a religious carnival, I do not think that you can have fun there, but it would be more like have respect and seriousness.
Greetings!
There are a lot of carnavals in Mexico, but they aren’t too important here in Mexico City.
ReplyDeleteThere’s a celebration that it’s known in almost all the country: it’s “Día de muertos” (dead’s day). I love October and November because of the “día de muertos” (which is celebrated in November 1° and 2°). In these days the dead people are supposed to come to their old homes. We are accustomed to put an “ofrenda” which is the food and things the dead person liked when he or she was alive.
In this celebration, there is a special kind of flowers called Cempasuchil, they are orange, they are dead’s flowers.
I think “Día de muertos” could be a carnaval because there are a lot of things that people do in these days: (we are happy that our loved relatives come back from the dead to visit us) there are plays (theater) about horror stories, in schools we write “calaveritas”: little poems about funny things of dead, and many candies shaped as skulls are made.
I really love this celebration

Hi there...!
ReplyDeleteHere in Mexico we celebrate a lot of carnivals like Veracruz Carnival t started at the days of the colony, but in that time this was a religious canival. The carnival that we know it today has new characteristics.
This carnival started with "La Qema del Mal Humor", when you burned a character that has been hated by the society. Yhis means that the carnival has been started. And al the people act like there are no problems. They go out with masks, beautiful dresses and fireworks.
All the streets in Verazruz are crowded with a lot of happiness and dacings.
I thnik this is a great Carnival because all the people there get together and dance, live and shout like there´s no problems.
I really want to go to this carnival, maybe i will go next year.
i hope yoo like it. :D
Here is a photo, hope you like it:

Giovanny:
ReplyDeleteTHE CARNIVAL IN MEXICO ARE NOT AS COMMON IN OTHER COUNTRIES LIKE ME BUT I learned a VERY IMPORTANT CARNIVAL TO BE HELD IN VERACRUZ. HERE I PUT A LITTLE OF WHAT IT IS:
Veracruz Carnival was celebrated since the days of the colony, although at the time the celebration was strictly adheres to its religious character.
But the Veracruz Carnival as we know it today, was conceived in 1925 and since that time has evolved and transcended, acquiring new features.
The festival begins with "The Burning of Bad Humor", which is played by an actor who, in turn, portrays a hated public figure.
Which it is to catch the character who represents evil humor and tries to catch and burn for this symbolizes that the party has started and that is how you start the parades and celebrations.
I had the opportunity to go only once and was a very pleasant experience it is something that was unknown to me but turned out to be great fun as there are many activities to do and plenty of food.
these are the web sites they can visit to learn more about this carnival and can see some pictures and videos:

Well, I think that I made a mistake about the meaning of Carnaval, in Mexico exist differents types of Carnaval, one of the most famous here, is the Carnval of Veracruz.
ReplyDeleteThe Carnaval of Veracruz was celebrated since the days of the colony, although at the time the celebration was strictly adheres to its religious character.

As Fer Rangel and Juan Carlos posted, there are many Carnivals in our country.
ReplyDeleteI´ll talk about the oldest Canrnival in México: The Carnaval de Campeche, with 428 years of existence!
Held in the Península de Yucatán, this carnival it´s characterized by the typical music of the mexican southeast, as well as the beautiful dances and the tipical folklore.
Also in this carnival, a coronation is performed starting with the coronation of kings with different capabilities, demonstrating that the Carnival is for everyone equally. The second coronation takes place with the children, who likewise made a performance. Finally, is crowned the Queen of TV, which is a television celebrity that was invited to the carnival and gets the name of "The Queen of the Carnaval de Campeche", this woman may be accompanied by a chamberlain.
Here is the link where you can get more information about this oldest carnival:
http://camp.gob.mx/C10/Carnaval/default.aspx
Also I think that the carnavals are an oportunity to show the traditions of one region to the other people. I remember that when I had 7 years, I went to the Mazatlan carnaval in the Sinaloa state in México, this is one of the most famous carnavals.
ReplyDeleteThose are some images about Mazatlan'carnaval.

I agree with the Vanessa coment about that in the carnavals you can lern a lot of thigs.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion one of the most important carnival that we have in mexico is the veracruz carnival because in this carnival a lot of people came to veracruz to apreciate this amazing experience.
ReplyDeleteThis carnival makes since 1924 at one of the most beatiful states that we have in mexico that is Veracruz, this carnival is maked at the Manuel Avila Camacho boulevard.
The carnival during is about 9 days.

I have to say that the carnavals are so so so so so so sooooo!!!! fun :D
ReplyDeletewell... I´m generalizing...
Im Mexico my favorite celebration is the "Día de muertos" (Dead´s day) maybe can sound creepy nevertheless is terrific!!!
It celebrates near of halloween, well the days after Halloween but I have to mention that this two celebrations have a lot of differences...
I´m only going to talk about the Dead´s day.
The dead´s day is a celebration with prehispanic origin. It starts on november 1 and on november 2 is the essencial day of honor the dead´s.
The most representative thing in this day is the "altar de muertos" that is basically--> A full decorated space to honor the love ones that had passed to "the other life".
This should be with:
-The food that the honor ones liked
-Representative thinks of their favorites activities...
-Pictures of the dead´s that are honoring
-Candles
-Water
-Flowers... alot of flowers
-Sugar skulls
-And many ornaments

The caranavals are things that have reflected the culture of each culture, they have huge humanistic and historical value, they are the marks of the civilitations for the future ones.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately around the world have been losing ancient festivities and supplanted by others festivities of the next door civilizations.
I think is important give us a time to check our own culturality carnavals and celebrations if we don´t we wont have any sense of belonging somewhere.

The "Día de muertos" is a tradition in Mexican culture, where they join our Hispanic culture and Catholic religion. This celebration is divided in two days, the first day (November 1) is to celebrate all the saints and the second day (November 2) is to celebrate all souls. In this celebration offerings are made to honor the dead.
ReplyDeleteI like the “Día de muertos" because it is a celebration to remember our family who have died, also I like it because the offerings are very colorful and have candles, “pan de muerto” , flowers of “cempasúchil” , candys, food, water, sugar skulls, fruit, vegetables, photographs and colored paper. :D
In this link you can many things about the "Día de muertos" :)

Emiliano Morales. Well there are a lot of carnivals in Mexico , the biggest and most important events take place in the ports like Mazatlan. It is metioned that Mazatlan attracts over 300,000 people from all over the world to enjoy this festivites or parties.
ReplyDeleteDuring the carnival everyone there participates in many different types of activities or events, at night people dressed in other type outfits and go to parties, to drink or to enjoy the food cause there are a lot of dishes. The entire day music of a lot of different genres is played alive by bands. Also you can see fireworks being deisplayed at night.
As Fernanda Rangel and Soladi posted, the carnival from Veracruz is such a great show! I used to live in Veracruz and I went like 3 or 4 times, its awesome! There's a parade where trucks pass in the streets with people in the top of the truck dancing, the trucks are covered with many things, according to the people that dances there, for example if the people dances hawaiian, the truck has the typical skirts and half of coconuts and it shines. Also the most typical thing in that parade is the ugly king, which is really ugly and has its own truck & his crown and sometimes it's drunk. What is typical is to wear shining masks. But is not only the parade, in the nights they put a fair in a big part of the town and there are mechanical games, a lot of food and a lot of beer. In those days people just have fun & forget about job because those days there are any school open or job open, of course people who works in hotels or things like that have to work, but it is such a nice experience and I assure you'll have a really nice experience. http://portal.veracruz.gob.mx/portal/page?_pageid=313,4306049&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTALhttp://www.elcarnavaldeveracruz.com/historia-carnaval-de-veracruz

Hi! I think that one of the most important carnavals that are celebrated in Mexico is the "Guelaguetza", this festival is celebrated in Oaxaca every year and it is part of the celebrations that are dedicated to "La Virgen del Carmen". This festival is known as "Los lunes del cerro" too because it´s celebrated two mondays before the Catolic feast on july 16.
ReplyDeleteIt´s very colorful and a lot of people use to wear traditional costumes and dance the traditional folclorick dance.

Hi everybody :)
ReplyDeletecarnaval in USA its like a spring break but here, in mexico we do different things.
In mexico the people tend to go into churches Friday, Saturday and Easter Sunday, which was the days when Jesus Christ was crucified.
It is called Semana santa and sincerely as I'm not very attached to religion, it turns out to be a vacation with my family.
Now we return from semana santa and we have to end up with the school.
I'd like to know how long are your break?
------------------------------------------------
i want to coment the post of Juan Carlos that said the most important carnaval in our country is in veracruz.
i would like to meet this city because i I've heard great things from this place, food, beaches, festivals and carnivals.
i found a video of the carnival of this place and i hope you will see and coment it.

Well like everyone has said we have "Semana Santa" and honestly im not a very catholic person but sometimes I use to spend that week with my parents, uncles, aunts and cousins.Just to have fun and be thankful for what we have.
ReplyDeleteAnd i would love to go to one of those carnavals, where you can get a cool costume and dance and sing!
One of the carnavals is called “Semana Santa”
ReplyDeleteOn wednesday of ash begins the cuaresma clebration and during all the Fridays of this event catholic people don´t eat red meats.
The Good Friday representations of the Passion of Christ are performed in different places of Mexico; thousands of people watch this representations. The most famous in DF are the one that is in Iztapalapa because of the celebration of the Via Crusis in this celebration attend a lot of faithfuls worldwide. The representations are so alive, that this event is recorded in Mexico and in many countries around the world since the beginning to the end. In this representation all the community assumes responsibilities like the preparation of the event, the logistics, and the characterization of the characters or, directly the action. This way, the recreation of the passion of Christ in Iztapalapa has become a celebration of international importance.
The Saturday of glory most of the people are used to throw water from the balconies or windows… and this custom little by little has been decreasing because the government wants to conserve the water reserves, some of the people don´t obey these rules and are arrested.
If you could go to this representation I´m sure you will be fascinated... is in Iztapalapa, Mexico, D.F.
I leave you a link that shows you a part of this representation in this place

ReplyDeleteI know Semana Santa is a very important holiday if you are catholic, but I think the most interesting part of it is the representation of the Passion of Christ, it is very interesting because all the people work so hard for this that when its time you can be sure that theyll do the best. I know that because the last year I went to Iztapalapa and is amazing their work :D if i were you i would go there.
Hello Everybody:!!
ReplyDeleteWell in Mexico we have a carnival in Veracruz like others classmates said. This carnival has been made since 87 years ago and during the celebrations are held grand balls and parties of masks, and there is interpreted the traditional folklore Danzon of Veracruz. The Carnival of Veracruz is the most important in Mexico and is considered the world's happiest carnival. The truth is that I've never been to this carnival but I hope someday I can go to this carnival because now is a Mexican tradition.

I am going to talk about carnival in Veracruz, because I think is the most important and representative in Mexico, honestly I haven´t visited this celebration…
ReplyDeleteHere is some information about this carnival!
This carnival is realized obviously in Veracruz City, it had been celebrated since 87 years ago. Is considered one of the happiest carnivals in the world.
The carnival is celebrating for nine days, there are colorful parades, with a musical ambient. The first event in the carnival is “La quema del mal humor” and in the last day they get the “Entierro de Juan Carnaval”.
During the festivities are organized large masked dances and parties, and they try to interpret traditional folklore dances in Veracruz. His music is made with harps, marimbas and guitars that fill all the party, which is the most popular place.
I want to visit this carnival, because once a friend tell me about his own experience in Veracruz, he said he get fun and he make a lot of new friends in Veracruz, and that´s why I would visit the next carnival with my family or some friends.

Julio, I agree with you.
ReplyDeleteI think that carnival in Veracruz is a incredible experience but I believe that
One of the most important carnival is the Carnival of Cancun, it is one of the most popular festivals and takes place during the month of February every year.
Caro Paz
The carnival is a festival that marks the beginning of Lent in the Catholic religion is a holiday about 5 days which offers street parades with dancers dressed in Caribbean style with colorful costumes and bright.
Also they organize concerts of Caribbean music with national and local artists and all people dance.
Hello ¡!... In Mexico as a country with many traditions, we also have many carnivals. I dont know many but when I went to Mazatlan there was one with lots of toys, fireworks, balloons, floats etc. ..
ReplyDeleteThis carnival is celebrated annually in the city of Mazatlan, is 40 days before Easter.
This has been the first carnival that has been documented. My Mardi Gras made me a very nice and very organized. I recommend you go to Maxtla in this Easter season so they can enjoy the incredible carnival.
Hola¡!...

The day I like most to celebrate in the year because we had holidays and days without school is 15 September. This is an important day for Mexico because we celebrated our Independence. There are a lot of history behind this event, the Mexicans always remember with great celebrations and recognition of major historical figures who contributed to our country.
ReplyDeleteOn 15 September all schools and work activities are suspended only to celebrate. During the festival there are great shows like multi-colored fireworks. The food delicious, traditional dishes typical of Mexico and eventually you share this with family

im agree with alexa nava the independence of Mexico its a Big celebration for us and we like to celebrate with using the typical things of the past like food, traditional costumes and more.
ReplyDeleteLucia Maytorena Ruiz A01183798
I agree with Lucia Maytorena but do you know why we celebrate the independence of Mexico in September 15th.. It is because during the nineteenth century "el grito de dolores" was commemorated on September 16th, but President Porfirio Díaz changed the celebration to the day before, to coincide with his birthday, on the day 15
ReplyDeleteHi :) well this time I will tell you about our carnivals in Mexico City. In our city we celebrate "Semana Santa".
ReplyDeleteThis carnival is related with the christian religion, where we celebrate the last days of Jesus, especially his pasion, dead and resurrection.
This carnival has origins in the middle ages, it begins with the Good Friday and next with the Palm Sunday, and ends with the Resurrection Sunday.
"Semana Santa" is also celebrated in other countries like Spain, Italy, Germany, Guatemala, Argentina and Chile.
In this celebration it´s very important the food you eat, where you can not eat red meat like Bistec, hamburgers, biffes, etc. You can only eat white meat like fish and chicken.
With all of these traditions I hope you can laern more about our traditions and our culture in Mexico.
Greetings :)
I forgot to put the link.........sorry

ReplyDeleteI agree with you: this kind of parties are originally religious. I learned in my literature class that it was an opportunity to do anything you want, as you wear a mask, nobody can recognize you.
Hello there here in mexico is actually one of my favorites kind of carnivals which is the “Feria del Caballo”, it is one of the mos ambiented carnival in Mexico, it is located in texcoco, and it has a lot of things, like rodeo and bands of Mexican music and a thing called Palenque which is a place where you go to bet,and there are some singers who charges to sing for the people.
ReplyDeleteRoberto Roldán A01215875
Like Luis Enrique said one of the most importants carnavals in Mexico is the veracruz's carnaval. Veracruz is located in the east of Mexico in the Golfo is a very important port which is one of the tools in the mexican trade.
ReplyDeleteThe Carnaval de Veracruz is really innovator, every year they change some things with the objective of give a better performance to their punlic.
This year they are going to offer, first a "defile infantil" a version of the carnaval but to the children, second a "Presentación de baile", and third a "Rumbata de quema del mal humor", Iknow the names are odd, but the mission is to give you a great experience and help you to forget the stress of your diary life.
Here is a link where you can check the schedules and everything of this celebration:

ReplyDeletehello!
ReplyDeletedo you know which days are "Carnaval" in mexico?
if you know history of mexico , you will know the must important "Carnaval" is " semana santa"
let me tell you. At Mass on Palm Sunday (Linggo ng Palaspás), Catholics carry palm fronds to be blessed by the priest. Many Filipinos bring them home after the Mass and place them above their front doors or windows, in the belief that doing so can ward off evil spirits and avert lightning. The usual Gospel reading on Palm Sunday features Jesus' entry into Jerusalem, when he was welcomed by people waving palm fronds and laying their cloaks on the ground for his donkey to walk upon. In some places a procession is held usually starting from an Ermita, a certain chapel not far from the parish church, in order to accommodate more faithfuls. Other parishes on the other hand blesses the palms in a plaza located in front of the church.
In the liturgy, the reading of the Gospel is dramatised wherein each part is read by a different liturgical minister. Generally, the narration is read by the commentator, while the dialogue of different characters such as Pontius Pilate are read by one or more of the lectors. The lines were spoken by the rabble are generally given the choir, with the congregation encouraged to deliver the lines as well. Lines that were spoken by Christ Himself are delivered by the priest.
now do you know what mean "semana santa"?
I agree with all. The "Semana Santa " is important to many Catholics in Mexico because that week we reflect on death and resurrection of God (Dios).
ReplyDeleteThis week the Mexicans make a representation of God is called "viacrusis".
This is a video of the “viacrusis”

Ok my favorite tradition in Mexico is Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de los Muertos). The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. The celebration takes place on October 31st through November 3rd, in connection with the Catholic holidays of All Saints' Day (November 1) and All Souls' Day (November 2). Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts. The Day of the Dead is a time of celebration when eating and parties are common. This holiday is similar to All Saints Day.
ReplyDeleteI love this day i go with my grandma to the graveyard to be with my grandpa
My favorite holi day in Mexico is on september 15th. Because I love all mexican tradition. Each year, I spend that day with my family in some place of Mexico, it could be Acapulco, Queretaro, Hidalgo, but it does not matter where we are, the important thing is to enjoy this day, that my family loves
ReplyDeletethe carnivals in all the world are important because they represent some part of the culture an beauty of each country, some kind of beuty is the costumes or "trajes tipicos" that the people wears. in this case i want to talk about the lent, we celebrate wearing costumes and dancing, the persons who wear that are called "chinelos" http://practicaweberr.blogspot.com/2010/10/chinelos.html
ReplyDeletethe "semana santa" is a celebration that the catholic people does in april.
I agree with Thelma, but like Erick said I love the celebration of 15 of september, in the zocalo you can see all the lights that are spectacular, in my family we celebrate eating mexican food and singing mariachi songs
ReplyDeleteWhat´s up? Have you ever heard about “La Feria de San Marcos in Mexico”?
ReplyDeleteLa Feria de San Marcos was considered "The National Fair of Mexico" by President Adolfo Lopez Mateos in 1859; it is the most important popular celebration of the Aguascalientes City held in honor of St. Mark the Evangelist.
Actually it being held from April 23 to May 15, but The fair was celebrated for the first time around harvest time from November 5 to November 20, 1828, as a showcase of the state's produce and livestock.
I've never been into the Fair but I've been in Aguascalientes so this city is one of the cleanest in Mexico and I think the fair is very good and it has many attractions however I would never go because it is considered the bigger Bar on Mexico so I do not like beer but if someone likes drink beer and pass good time ... why not you go? and tell us how do you spend the time?

Hi!
ReplyDeleteI see many of you think like Angeles and Blanca Lucía; about that in Veraruz and Mazatlán are the best carnivals in Mexico. Honestly I had only gone to Mazatlán (when I was little) and I do not remember have seeing the mentioned carnival. So I have not know none, I would like to go there to know more, also because I'm mexican. Sounds very interesting what they say about them.
And as I mentioned before "Semana Santa" (Lent) is one of the carnivals that are made here in Mexico this time of year, specifically in April. Which lasts 40 days; begins with Ash Wednesday and ends on Palm Sunday.
Here I leave some links to images:

ReplyDeleteFor nine days, the nine preceding ¨Miercoles de seniza¨ are colorful parades that fill the streets with music and festive atmosphere, the first event of the carnival is the burning of "Bad Mood" and on the ninth day is done burial of Juan Carnaval. During the festivities are organized large masked balls and parties, and try to interpret traditional folklore Danzon Veracruz. His music from harps, marimbas and guitars fills the entire holiday, which is the most popular place.
